Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s top performing hospitals for quality by The Joint Commission. Bon Secours Maryview was recognized for providing best treatments in heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

Located in Portsmouth, Bon Secours Maryview has continually received numerous awards, certifications and recognitions for excellence. For instance, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has designated Maryview as a Blue Distinction center for spine surgery. The expert surgeons at Virginia Orthopaedic and Spine Specialists and The Spine Center of Hampton Roads all choose to perform their surgeries at Maryview Medical Center. Because of the facility’s emphasis on quality patient care, our offices are located conveniently through-out Western Hampton Roads in Suffolk and Portsmouth!

To be named as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures hospitals had to meet two 95 percent performance thresholds. First, each hospital have to achieve performance of 95 percent or above on a single, composite score that includes all the accountability measures for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, including measures that had fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients. Second, each hospital met or exceeded 95 percent performance on every accountability measure for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, excluding any measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients. A 95 percent score means a hospital provided an evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities to provide the practice.

As a top-performing hospital, Bon Secours Maryview will be recognized in the “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report, on The Joint Commission’s website (www.jointcommission.org/accreditation/top_performers.aspx), as well as on The Joint Commission’s Quality Check website (www.qualitycheck.org). The Top Performer program will be featured in the November issue of The Joint Commission Perspectives and the October issue of The Joint Commission: The Source.
