pexels-vera-arsic-984944Men suffering arthritis at an early age may have issues with fertility, according to a study conducted at Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands.

The study, published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, reports that patients with arthritic joint pain under the age of thirty were shown to have fewer children and poorer quality of sperm than study participants aged thirty-one and older.

In addition, the research showed that of the men interviewed who presently have chosen not to sire children cite their arthritis as a reason. Pain associated with lack of interest in sexual activity is one factor.

See the Annal of the Rheumatic Diseases for more information on this study.
